Sports Betting Terms

The sections below explain the most common sports betting terms and meanings in simple language.

Draw No Bet

Draw no bet is an extremely easy-to-understand option, though it may sound like one of the more complicated sports betting terms. You bet on the outcome of the match, plain and simple. However, there is no draw option. You can only bet on a home win or an away win.

Win to Nil

Win to nil sports betting is like placing two bets at the same time. You bet on one team to win and the other’s score to be nil. Both outcomes need to be true for your bet to win.

Both Teams to Score

As the name clearly suggests, “both teams to score” is where you bet on both teams in a game to score. So, all scores including and above 1-1 lead to a winning bet.

Anytime Goalscorer

Anytime goalscorer sports betting is where you stake money on a particular player to score during a soccer match. If your chosen player scores at any time during the game, your bet wins.

Over 2.5 Goals

Over 2.5 goals sports betting is where you bet on the total number of goals during the entire game (including extra time) to be three or more. If there are less than three goals, your bet loses.

Sports Betting Terms

Asian Handicap

Asian handicap is the kind of sports betting that equalizes the playing field when two drastically unequal teams pit against each other. In a handicap bet, the clear favorites not only need to win but need to win by a certain margin for the bet to be successful.

Double Chance

Double chance bets let you bet on two outcomes simultaneously, thereby increasing your chances of winning. For example, you can simultaneously bet on a draw as well as a home win or vice versa.

Correct Score

Correct score betting is when you wager money on predicting the exact score of the game. For example, you can bet on Bayern Munich defeating Borussia Dortmund 2-0. That would be called a correct score bet.

1X2 Betting

1X2 betting is the simplest form of sports betting. It requires you to predict the ultimate outcome of the game. One means home win, X means a draw, and two means away win.

Handicap Betting

Handicap betting is pretty much the same as Asian handicap, except that you cannot bet on a draw in an Asian handicap bet. Otherwise, it is the same. Handicap betting gives a competitive advantage to the weaker team in an uneven contest.

Half Time/Full Time Meaning

The half-time/full-time meaning predicts which of the two teams will lead at the end of each half of a 90-minute soccer match. For example, you can bet on the home team leading at the end of half-time and the away team leading at the end of the match.

System Bets Calculator

A system bets calculator lets you calculate how much your pay-out will be for a given system bet. A system bet is a combination of multiple bets where you can win the overall bet even when some selections within it fail.

Odds Calculator

The odds calculator lets you quickly calculate how much you can win from your bet based on the odds and your stake value. Calculating pay-outs are essential to having a solid betting strategy.

Accumulator Calculator

An accumulator calculator lets you quickly calculate how much you can win from your accumulator bet. An accumulator bet is where multiple bets are combined into one but you can only win if all selections succeed.

Over/under

Over/ under refers to a type of bet you can place for sports where there is a score. The sportsbook predicts a possible score for the game to end in, and the bettor needs to predict whether the actual score is going to be over or under the prediction.

Dropping odds

Dropping odds is something done by the bookmaker as the actual event draws closer. Bookmakers usually give out odds weeks before an event. But right before the event is set to start, they drop those odds so that they are closer to the actual probabilities in the event.

High odds

High odds are given to the outcome of a sporting event that is highly unlikely. The payouts for these odds are usually far greater than the ones for low odds. This is because the sportsbook isn’t expecting this outcome to happen in the game.

Multi bet

Multi bets are bets that you can place on a single betslip by rolling over your winnings from the last bet. They can give bettors very high potential returns if they are placed in a strategic way.
