Mamelodi Sundowns FC have received encouraging news regarding the fitness of key midfielder Teboho Mokoena.

The star player is expected to recover in time for the MTN8 final against Orlando Pirates on October 10 at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Midfield Concerns for Bafana Bafana

Mokoena missed Bafana Bafana’s recent 5-0 victory over Eritrea in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Cairo. He sustained an injury during South Africa’s 2-1 win over Guinea in Soweto.

Initial fears over his condition have eased. Current indications suggest the issue is not as severe as first anticipated.

National team setup options were further tested on Wednesday when Bathusi Aubaas suffered an early injury against Eritrea. Aubaas had entered the starting lineup specifically to replace Mokoena. The full extent of his injury remains unknown at this stage.

Additional Fitness Updates

Aubrey Modiba also missed the match against Eritrea after picking up a knock against Guinea. Like Mokoena, he is currently working toward a return for the upcoming domestic cup final.

Despite these fitness setbacks, South Africa secured back-to-back victories to open their qualifying campaign. Attention now shifts back to domestic competition, where both Sundowns and Pirates prepare for their high-stakes encounter next month.
