Kaizer Chiefs defender Xolani Cossa is making a strong statement during his loan spell at Gomora United. The young talent has quickly established himself as a key figure in the Motsepe Foundation Championship side’s defense.
According to a report by Soccer Laduma, experienced defender Thato Lingwati spoke highly of his new central defensive partner. Their partnership has developed rapidly early in the campaign.
A Solid Partnership in Defense
Cossa joined Gomora on loan at the start of the season after a stint with Botswana Premier League side Black Lions. The 22-year-old left-sided centre-back broke directly into the starting line-up.
He has featured in key matches against:
- The Bees
- Leicesterford City
- Highbury FC
- Upington City
Under head coach Patrick Phungwayo, Gomora United has enjoyed a stellar start to the campaign. The team has conceded just one loss in six matches.
Lingwati highlighted Cossa’s strong mindset and technical abilities.
“He is young and has the belief and he always wants to be great. That’s one thing I like about him. He works hard,” Lingwati told Soccer Laduma. “Our combination has been going well… So far so good, but I think we can always improve.”
He also praised Cossa’s passing range and tactical awareness.
“He can hit those diagonal balls well… He can read the game well, considering his age. I think he has adapted well,” Lingwati added.
Up Next: A Big Challenge
Gomora United will move from their regular Malamulele Stadium home to host Cape Town City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium this Friday. The clash will be broadcast on television, giving Cossa another platform to demonstrate his progress.
