Bafana Bafana midfielder Relebohile Mofokeng has expressed strong support for the newest breakout talent at Orlando Pirates.
Both players share a very similar path to professional football. Each transition was made directly from the youth academy and DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) into the senior squad.
Young prospect Mpho Padime admitted that he views the former Buccaneers attacker as a key inspiration.
Since joining the first team, Padime has made 3 substitute appearances in domestic league action. His sharp technical ability and quick footwork have already impressed supporters.
Speaking to SuperSport TV, as reported by kickoff.com, Mofokeng highlighted the youngster’s ceiling and authentic style of play.
“I think he’s a very exciting player. He’s very exciting, and he’s very skilful,” Mofokeng noted.
“When you are watching him, you feel that South African football thing; you remember where you come from because where we come from, we dribble, we entertain people and all that.”
Mofokeng added that Padime’s attacking intent makes him stand out on the pitch.
“So, when I look at him, I feel excited because he dribbles while going forward; he wants to do something for the team.”
He also praised the player’s physical attributes and work ethic.
“And I think if he continues like this, he’ll go far because he’s a very good player. He’s got the height; his work rate also speaks for him.”
“I think if he continues like this, he’ll play in the first team. From the first team, he can get better options and go far.”
Mofokeng is currently making an impact overseas with Belgian Pro League club Royale Union Saint-Gilloise. He has registered 4 goals and 1 assist in 9 appearances across all competitions.
At the moment, Mofokeng is on international duty with the senior national team in Egypt. Meanwhile, Padime is training with the South Africa Under-23 squad ahead of their upcoming match against Algeria.
