Real Madrid is set to appoint a new club president this upcoming weekend. Currently, the election campaign is in full swing, with two candidates in the running. The contenders are Florentino Perez and Enrique Riquelme.
Riquelme has promised to reveal the name of a superstar he has secured for transfer negotiations if he wins the election. However, the incumbent president has taken the headlines with a different announcement
On Wednesday night, June 3rd, a major update was shared on Florentino Perez’s official election campaign page, titled “Florentino 2026.” It was confirmed that Jose Mourinho will take charge as Real Madrid’s head coach for the 2026/2027 season. The post concluded with the phrase “MOUcha historia por hacer,” which translates to “still much history to write,” marking the highly anticipated return of The Special One.
In the recent season, Mourinho managed Benfica, a role he took up in September of that year. Despite leading the team to an unbeaten league campaign, Benfica only finished in third place.
Previously, he has held managerial positions at clubs such as Fenerbahce, Roma, Tottenham, Manchester United, and Chelsea. This will be Mourinho’s second stint with Real Madrid, having first managed the club between 2010 and 2013.
During that tenure, he secured the La Liga title, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup. Over the course of 178 matches at the helm, his team triumphed in an impressive 127 games.
