The pressure of top-flight football has claimed its latest coaching staff. Marumo Gallants FC have officially parted ways with head coach Phuti Mohafe and assistant coach Musa Bilankulu.
The decision comes after a highly disappointing start to the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season.

The Breaking Point
The decision was finalized on Wednesday. Mohafe’s final game in charge was a 2-2 draw against Polokwane City FC.
Mohafe only joined the club during the off-season after leaving Polokwane City. However, collecting just two points from five matches forced the management to act quickly.
The club issued a brief official statement regarding the managerial departure:
“The Club will not be commenting further on the circumstances surrounding the decision or engaging on the merits of the matter.”
According to reporting by blog.hollywoodbets.net, second assistant coach Trevor Mathiane has taken over as interim head coach. He will lead the team while the board searches for a permanent replacement.
Informal discussions have reportedly taken place with former Simba SC coach Dimitar Pantev. However, no official agreement has been confirmed.
Roster Adjustments and What Lies Ahead
The coaching changes match a busy period in the transfer market for the club. Midfielder Bheki Mabuza recently completed a permanent move to Orlando Pirates. Meanwhile, Daniel Msendami and Abdoulaye Mariko have joined Gallants on loan as direct replacements.
Changes in the technical team often bring temporary instability, but Gallants need immediate results. The club currently sits 15th on the log and remains in danger near the relegation zone.
Mathiane faces a tough test in his first assignment. Gallants travel to face AmaZulu FC at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Saturday, where they will chase their very first league win of the season.
