Cape Town City FC chairman John Comitis has confirmed transfer discussions with Orlando Pirates regarding teenage star Emille Witbooi during the recent transfer window.
The Buccaneers targeted the 18-year-old attacking midfielder following the departure of Relebohile Mofokeng. However, the Cape Town side rejected the proposal after deeming the valuation unmet. Local reports suggest the club valued the youngster between R18 million and R20 million.
While Witbooi was reportedly keen on the transfer to build a bridge to European football, Cape Town City opted to keep the player to support their current campaign.
Speaking to kickoff.com, Comitis explained that the club decided to retain Witbooi for their promotion push. He noted that while discussions occurred with the Soweto giants, no agreement was reached. Comitis added that interest in the player remains high and the club remains confident about securing his true market value when the right opportunity arises for both parties.
Transfer negotiations for young talent often balance immediate competitive needs with long-term financial returns. For Cape Town City, keeping Witbooi maintains their technical quality on the pitch. Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates continue their roster adjustments in a dynamic domestic market.
