Arthur Zwane is currently overseeing a significant turnaround at AmaZulu FC. Since his arrival in October 2024, the narrative surrounding the club has changed. He inherited a team struggling at the bottom of the log. Today, they are competing for a spot in the upper echelons of the Betway Premiership.
Building Through Youth
President Sandile Zungu has expressed his satisfaction with the current technical direction. Speaking to KickOff, Zungu highlighted the focus on youth development. He noted that the coach is successfully integrating academy graduates.
This strategy offers a sustainable alternative to the transfer market. The club is building a squad that could be highly competitive within two seasons. While young players make mistakes, the president values their gradual growth under Zwane’s guidance.
The Top Four Objective
The mandate for the remainder of the season is clear. AmaZulu FC is targeting a top four finish. With five matches remaining, they have accumulated 39 points. They currently trail third-placed Kaizer Chiefs by seven points.
Zungu believes this goal remains attainable. The fixture list is in their favor. Four of the final five games will be played in KwaZulu-Natal. This includes three home fixtures and one local away match. Their only major travel involves a trip to face Orbit College.
Overcoming Challenges
The campaign has not been without hurdles. The team lost top goalscorer Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya to injury during a vital phase. This forced the coach to rely even more heavily on his young squad.
Despite these setbacks, the leadership remains confident. The shift toward homegrown talent and lower-division signings is a long-term play. It moves the club away from heavy spending while maintaining competitive standards in the top flight.
