Following a narrow 1-0 defeat to Red Arrows in the CAF Confederation Cup in Ndola, Zambia, a tense verbal exchange broke out between Kaizer Chiefs teammates Renaldo Leaner and Reeve Frosler.
The incident went viral online, sparking widespread concern among the fan base regarding squad discipline and unity at Naturena. However, club vice-captain Inacio Miguel has jumped to the defence of his teammates, offering a very different perspective on the clash.
Turning Frustration Into Passion
Rather than viewing the heated flashpoint as a sign of internal turmoil, the Angolan international sees it as a healthy, necessary reaction to a painful result. Miguel believes that this type of emotional drive is precisely what the club needs to restore its high standards.
“I saw the images; everybody saw them. Personally, I’m happy with this kind of behaviour; it feels like we felt the loss,” Miguel stated in an interview withGoal.com.
He dismissed suggestions that the dressing room is in disarray, insisting that the public perception does not match the reality within the group:
“Not only our supporters, not only our fans. We also suffer; we also get frustrated and disappointed with the results… It’s nothing bad for the team; it’s just a changing of ideas.”
Demanding More Aggression for the Future
Inacio Miguel highlighted that a passive response to defeat would be far more concerning for the technical staff than a heated dialogue between professionals. He believes that a lack of competitive bite has hurt the team in recent years.
“People think outside the changing room it’s a mess. No, it’s just a changing of ideas… For me, I see the solution is that behaviour, that passion that we need. In the past three seasons, I feel like we need more of that; we need more aggression,” he added.
Looking ahead, the defender hopes this raw energy serves as a catalyst for accountability and improved resilience on the pitch. The focus now turns to whether this internal friction can translate into better performances in their upcoming fixtures.
