Abednego “Tsotsi Number One” Netshiozwi believes a double celebration is coming for the Buccaneers. The former defender shared his analysis with soccerladuma.co.za. He suggests the recent youth success provides a blueprint for the senior team’s title race.
Pirates Reserves Make History
The Orlando Pirates junior side recently clinched their first-ever DDC title. They defeated Mamelodi Sundowns FC 2-0 in Soweto to secure the trophy.
This victory was the result of a record-breaking season. The young squad finished the campaign with 75 points and 24 victories. Netshiozwi feels this achievement has set a standard for the rest of the club.
Motivation for the Senior Squad
Netshiozwi argues that the junior side has motivated their “big brothers.” The senior team is currently in a fierce battle for the Betway Premiership. They recently maintained their momentum with a 3-0 win against Magesi FC.
Within this squad, Patrick Maswanganyi remains a central figure as the team pursues domestic glory. The former left-back believes the senior players will not want to disappoint after seeing the reserves succeed.
The Title Race Outlook
The Buccaneers are currently three points behind the log leaders. Critically, they have a game in hand. Netshiozwi is confident that the team is in a prime position to finish the job.
He also shared his perspective on the remaining fixtures. He predicts a potential slip-up for Sundowns in their match against TS Galaxy FC. Netshiozwi believes that even if points finish level, Pirates could win the title on goal difference.
The club still faces challenges against Durban City and Orbit College FC. However, the mood at the club remains optimistic following the youth team’s triumph.
