TS Galaxy’s rising star, Khulumani Ndamane, is at the centre of a transfer tug-of-war. Two South African giants, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates, are both vying for his signature. However, the 21-year-old defender has set his sights on a move to Europe, with Romanian powerhouse FCSB expressing concrete interest in luring him abroad.
Breakout Season for Ndamane
Ndamane has enjoyed a stellar 2024/25 campaign, quickly establishing himself as a key figure in TS Galaxy’s backline after joining from Kaizer Chiefs’ Diski Challenge side. The left-footed centre-back featured in 27 matches across all competitions. He helped Galaxy finish fifth in the South African Premiership, a remarkable achievement for the Mpumalanga-based club. His composure on the ball at a young age has not gone unnoticed by scouts both locally and internationally.
Ndamane clocked over 2,200 minutes in the league, maintaining a starting role throughout and contributing to Galaxy’s impressive defensive record. His performances earned him a call-up to the Bafana Bafana squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. He made a memorable debut in a friendly against Tanzania. Khulumani played the full 90 minutes and clinched the Man of the Match award.
Interest from South Africa’s Elite
Both Sundowns and Pirates have identified Ndamane as a prime target as they look to reinforce their defensive ranks. Sundowns, in particular, are seeking a replacement for Rivaldo Coetzee, while Pirates are rebuilding after releasing several defenders. The interest from these clubs underscores Ndamane’s reputation as one of the most promising defenders in the league.
Despite the allure of joining one of South Africa’s “big three,” Ndamane and his representatives are leaning towards a move to Europe. Romanian giants FCSB, home to fellow South African Siyabonga Ngezana, have made their intentions clear. They initiated talks with TS Galaxy and the player’s camp. Ndamane’s agent, Musa Sithebe, confirmed the European interest, stating, “There is interest for Ndamane in Romania; there is also interest locally, but I can’t say much because nothing has been finalised”.
With TS Galaxy known for not standing in the way of players seeking bigger opportunities, a move for Ndamane this transfer window appears likely. Should the deal with FCSB materialise, it would mark a significant step in the youngster’s career. It could also provide a boost for Bafana Bafana’s defensive options ahead of crucial international assignments.
