Orlando Pirates have officially confirmed the departure of assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi. The 57-year-old coach is set to return to a head coaching position at an undisclosed Premier Soccer League club.
The announcement followed morning discussions between Ncikazi and management. The coach expressed a strong desire to lead a team again, and the Soweto giants granted him their blessing.
A Decorated Tenure at Mayfair
Ncikazi departs the Sea Robbers after a highly successful period. During his time on the technical team, predominantly as an assistant alongside a brief co-coaching stint in 2025, he helped secure nine trophies.
Club chairman Dr Irvin Khoza praised the departing coach’s dedication:
“Mandla leaves with our gratitude and our blessing. His contribution to Orlando Pirates has been evident throughout his time with us. We respect his wish to pursue this new opportunity and wish him success as he takes on a new responsibility.”
What Comes Next?
While Pirates have not officially named his destination, recent reports heavily link Ncikazi with a return to Lamontville Golden Arrows, where he previously served as head coach.
Moving from an assistant role at a top-tier team to a primary coaching position reflects a natural progression for ambitious coaches. Taking charge of a team allows a manager to implement their tactical vision directly, though it brings higher pressure and accountability.
