Former Orlando Pirates youth coach Joseph Makhanya has shared an update on his status after parting ways with third-tier side Pele Pele FC.
According to a report by kickoff.com, the former winger remains unattached and is actively looking for his next coaching role.
Looking for the Right Opportunity
Makhanya previously served as assistant coach alongside Issa Sarr under Andile Zulu at Pele Pele FC in the Gauteng ABC Motsepe League. He stepped down at the end of the 2024/25 season. Vincent Rammoni has since taken over the head coaching role for the 2026/27 campaign.
Speaking on his current situation, Makhanya confirmed that he is waiting for the right project to come along.
“Currently I’m unattached, still looking, waiting for somebody who would find me useful,” Makhanya stated. “I would definitely love to go back into the scene and do what I love best.”
Pride in Youth Development
Before his time with the Buccaneers, Makhanya spent time at Kagiso Porto. Throughout his coaching journey, he helped groom several players who have now stepped into professional football.
While watching a recent Betway Premiership match between Siwelele FC and Polokwane City FC, he reflected on tracking the progress of former pupils Manelisi Mazibuko and Thato Letshedi. He also had a hand in developing defender Aden McCarthy, who now plays for Sabah FK, as well as star winger Relebohile Mofokeng.
Seeing former players perform at the highest levels, including the UEFA Champions League and Motsepe Foundation Championship, brings the developer immense satisfaction.
“As development coaches, when you sit and watch these games and you see players you’ve worked with, you become proud that I’m doing something right, I’ve changed somebody’s life,” Makhanya added.
