Orlando Pirates winger Gamphani Lungu has earned international recognition following an exceptional start to his career with his new club. The attacker joined the Buccaneers during the off-season from Siwelele FC and has made an immediate impact.

Lungu has already recorded four goals and one assist in just seven appearances for Orlando Pirates. According to kickoff.com, his productive performances left Zambia national team coach George Lwandamina with little choice but to include him in the latest national setup.

The Lone PSL Representative

Lungu stands out as the only South African-based player named in Zambia’s 27-member squad. Chipolopolo are preparing for the upcoming 2027 AFCON qualifiers in Group I, where they face tough competition alongside Algeria, Togo, and Burundi.

Zambia will begin their qualifying campaign on the road against Algeria on September 25. They then return home to host Togo four days later.

Former Zambia coach Wedson Nyirenda praised the forward’s trajectory, noting his versatility across the pitch. Nyirenda highlighted Lungu’s ability to operate as a full-back, winger, or striker, describing him as a patient, disciplined, and complete modern footballer who thoroughly deserves his place in the national team.
