Kaizer Chiefs face a critical rebuilding phase ahead of the 2025/26 Premier Soccer League season. Following a series of high-profile departures, headlined by the exit of club captain Yusuf Maart. With the attacking ranks thinned and fresh faces needed to restore Amakhosi’s firepower, the Soweto giants have shifted their focus towards Bosnian forward Dzenan Zajmovic, previously with TS Galaxy.

The Chiefs’ challenges this offseason have been considerable. After securing the Nedbank Cup and breaking a decade-long trophy drought, optimism was high. However, the transfer of midfield lynchpin and captain Yusuf Maart to Austria’s SV Ried created a significant void in the squad’s leadership and creative force. Alongside Maart, Chiefs have seen the exit of Ranga Chivaviro and several others. Leaving the forward line looking thin and short on experience and goalscoring options.

Recognising the need to refresh their attacking arsenal, Amakhosi have singled out TS Galaxy’s Dzenan Zajmovic as a prime target. The 30-year-old striker impressed in last season’s campaign. He proved to be one of the most prolific forwards in the South African top flight. Zajmovic featured in 28 matches for TS Galaxy, netting 11 goals and supplying 2 assists across all competitions. In league play alone, he managed 7 goals and 2 assists from 24 appearances. Leading his team both in scoring and overall attacking contributions.

What Zajmovic Brings to Amakhosi?

Zajmovic’s technical ability, strong aerial presence, and robust finishing are precisely what Chiefs need. They are looking to spark their forward line back to life. Standing at 1.90m, Zajmovic’s hold-up play and knack for getting into dangerous positions. He can be the focal point that Chiefs lacked, especially with their recent losses. His experience across European leagues and now the South African league adds a versatile and battle-tested edge to Amakhosi’s youthful attack.

Coach Nasreddine Nabi views Zajmovic as a solution both for lead striker duties and as a mentor for emerging talents. “South Africa is a nice country with a good league, and I would love to continue playing there at a new club.” Zajmovic himself told local media when asked about the potential move.

With new attacking signings and the pursuit of proven scorers like Zajmovic, Chiefs are sending a clear message. They intend to fight on all fronts in the upcoming campaign. Restoring their goal threat will be crucial if they hope to reclaim their status at the summit of South African football following a ninth-place league finish and a turbulent offseason.
