Real Madrid made a managerial shift at the start of 2026, introducing a surprising change at the helm. Alvaro Arbeloa stepped in to replace Xabi Alonso. At the time of his appointment, the team was actively competing for three major titles (La Liga, Copa del Rey, and the Champions League). Now, just four months later, it is clear that Los Blancos will finish the season without securing any significant trophies for a second consecutive year.

Their loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarterfinals immediately sparked discussions about the 43-year-old’s future. During a press conference, reporters questioned Arbeloa about his intentions regarding the coming season. The Spaniard made it clear that he would fully respect the club’s decision, leaving his future entirely in the hands of the management.

I feel I’ve done everything within my power to help the team succeed. Every single day, I gave my all. All I want is for Real Madrid to thrive, no matter who the coach may be. I will respect whatever decision the club makes – stated Alvaro Arbeloa.

Do I believe the club should give me another chance? I’ll accept any choice they make. Real Madrid is a part of who I am. I care about this club far more than I care about myself – he added.

Arbeloa emphasised that his intention upon joining the team was never personal gain. His priority was always the squad. His goal was to assist the players and support the team following a challenging period under Xabi Alonso’s leadership.

When I became the coach of Real, my goal was never to prove that I am talented or clever. It has always been solely about assisting the players, being there for them, and supporting the team – emphasised the Spaniard.
