Tyson Fury announces retirement from boxing

Last Updated on

British boxing icon Tyson Fury has made an unexpected announcement, stating that he is retiring from boxing.

Fury shared the news on Instagram, just two days after promoter Eddie Hearn disclosed that Wembley Stadium had been booked for a possible summer bout between Fury and Anthony Joshua.

I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing,” he posted on Instagram. “It’s been a fantastic journey. I’ve enjoyed every moment, and I’ll end with this—Dick Turpin wore a mask!

This isn’t the first time the 36-year-old has mentioned retirement. In 2022, following his victory over Dillian Whyte, Fury said he was stepping away from the sport. However, he returned to the ring just six months later for a fight against Derek Chisora.

Most recently, on December 21, 2024, Fury faced off against Oleksandr Usyk in a highly anticipated rematch for the undisputed heavyweight title at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. In a closely fought contest, Usyk won by unanimous decision.

After the match, Fury expressed his disappointment with the result.

Whether this retirement will last is uncertain, but there is no question that Tyson Fury is one of the greatest heavyweight boxers of his era. His outstanding professional record boasts 34 wins, 2 losses, and 1 draw.
