Bet on Switzerland to Win
Switzerland face an Italy team which has been in terminal decline over recent years. While Italy did win Euro 2020, that was a bright spark in what has otherwize been a bad past decade for them. They did not progress beyond the first round of the 2014 World Cup and followed that up by not qualifying for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.
Switzerland have always been a very capable side but somehow have just never shone in major international tournaments. One fancies that they will finally break this trend in the current European Championships. They knocked out France in the last edition of the tournament and can perform another giant kill in this tournament by eliminating the reigning Champions which they will back themselves to do.
Bet on Switzerland to Win 1-0
Switzerland have never beaten Italy before. That trend though is bound to end at some point. The Swiss will play attacking football in this game against an Italian side which has so far lot really looked dangerous in this tournament.
Switzerland may find a goal against the run of play and then frustrate Italy by defending in high numbers and eventually coming out of the game with a narrow win.
Bet on Xherdan Shaqiri to Score
The game promises to be a physical one with the ball largely contained to midfield. Shaqiri has a knack of scoring in these types of games and can come up with world-class strikes from range. Even though the Italian defence is world-class and should largely succeed in containing Swiss attacks, there is not much that they can do against late quality strikes from Shaqiri.
What the Coaches Say?
Switzerland coach Murat Yakin was delighted with the way that his troops played as they held hosts Germany to a 1-1 draw.
“Firstly I need to pay a big compliment to the team. It was a tactical game, you could see how much we ran and how much we fought. We could annoy the opponent with our counters,” he said.
“I’m really happy with the style and manner in which we played.”
“I feel sorry for the team, but the performance was immense and we can live with the draw.”
