The future of Polokwane City’s standout performer, Oswin Appollis, remains shrouded in uncertainty. Three of South Africa’s main football giants have intensified their pursuit of the Bafana Bafana winger. With the transfer window now open, speculation has risen about the 23-year-old set for a move away from the Limpopo club. But his next destination is far from decided.

Appollis just entered the final 12 months of his contract with Polokwane City. He is at the centre of a transfer battle involving Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs, and Mamelodi Sundowns. Chiefs, long-time admirers, have reportedly renewed their interest and advanced negotiations, while Pirates and Sundowns are also actively engaged in talks behind the scenes.

Polokwane City snapped up Appollis from Pretoria Callies two years ago. They value their talisman at around R20 million. However, with his contract winding down, the club faces mounting pressure to cash in now. Alternatively, they risk losing him for less in the future.

Despite enduring a modest club campaign, scoring twice in the league, Appollis has shone for the national team. Since making his Bafana Bafana debut in November 2023 at age 22, he has quickly established himself as a regular under coach Hugo Broos. During the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, Appollis contributed two goals and four assists in six matches. Underlining his value on the international stage.

An Inevitable Move, But Where To?

With his stock rising, it is likely that Appollis will depart Polokwane City before the new season. Insiders suggest talks with Kaizer Chiefs are at an advanced stage. But both Pirates and Sundowns remain determined to land his signature. Pirates, in particular, are motivated by continental ambitions. They see Appollis as a key addition to bolster their squad for the CAF Champions League competition.

As negotiations continue, Polokwane City are bracing for the possible exit of its prized asset. For Appollis, the next few weeks could define the trajectory of his career. Whether he dons the gold and black of Chiefs, the black and white of Pirates, or the yellow of Sundowns remains the burning question in South African football.
