Top 3 Betting Picks for Poland vs Romania

Both Poland and Romania are trying to avoid relegation to League C of the Nations League after a poor start to their campaign. The hosts have only one point on the table, thanks to a 0-0 draw against Bosnia & Herzegovina. Romania have zero points following 2-1 and 4-2 defeats to Sweden and Bosnia & Herzegovina. Poland are favourites to win this game, but both sides have evidenced defensive issues, and the real betting value might lie on a draw.

Pick 1: Full-Time Result: Draw

Both Poland and Romania are in poor form, and this is virtually a play-off to avoid direct relegation to League C. Poland are winless in five games, managing just a clean sheet in eight fixtures, including friendlies. On the other hand, Romania have won just one of their past six fixtures across all competitions, including friendlies.

  • No clean sheets for the Tricolori: It’s hard to imagine Gheorghe Hagi’s men will keep a clean sheet here. The visitors have conceded at least a goal in 11 of their previous 12 games.
  • The return of ‘Lewa’: After sitting on the bench for 89 minutes during Poland’s defeat against Sweden, Robert Lewandowski is poised to start this game.
  • Points shared: At such low odds, it’s difficult to back the hosts, who have won none of their past three home games, including friendlies. Romania have not won away from home since March 2025, when they beat San Marino 5-1. In the past 24 months, their only other away wins have come against Kosovo, Lithuania and Cyprus, but a cautious approach is to back the draw, at 3.90, with a small stake.

Pick 2: Goals Market: Both Teams To Score – Yes

Bookmakers expect a fairly high-scoring contest, and in fact the Asian Goal line is set at Under/Over 2.5, 3.0 goals, with both options being priced at odds on. In the event of a match with three goals or more, it is unlikely that any of these two sides will keep a clean sheet.

  • A winning pattern: The “Both teams to score – Yes” bet won in six of Poland’s last eight matches, which was also the case in three of their previous five home games.
  • Leaky defences: Poland managed to keep a clean sheet only once in their last eight matches, while Romania have conceded at least one goal in each of their previous eight games.
  • High-scoring affairs for Hagi’s men: Both teams scored in six of Romania’s last eight games, including in each of their previous four matches.

Pick 3: Player Prop: Robert Lewandowski to score anytime

Poland’s striker and all-time top scorer with 89 goals, Robert Lewandowski, is the player to watch because of his record against Romania. He scored five goals in his last two appearances against them, including a hat-trick in the most recent head-to-head meeting, back in 2017 in Warsaw.

  • Favourite victim: In the last two head-to-head meetings, Lewandowski scored five out of Poland’s six goals, including a hat-trick in the most recent meeting, a 3-1 victory in Warsaw in 2017.
  • Rested Lewa is a great threat: Poland still rely heavily on Lewandowski in attack. He was Poland’s top scorer in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers with four goals. He’s been rested for 89 minutes on matchday two against Sweden and will be raring to go
  • Excellent numbers: Robert Lewandowski scored six goals in 11 MLS appearances for Chicago Fire this season. He failed to score in Poland’s two UEFA Nations League matches in this window, but given his record he’s worth backing even at odds-on.

Recent Form & Head-to-Head

Poland were defeated by a ruthless Sweden side on matchday two, leaving them with just one point in their Nations League group. Despite a slow start, Poland impressed late in the half, scoring when Szymański converted a Nicola Zalewski cross. Poland registered more shots on goal than Sweden during the match (18 vs 12), but lacked precision in front of goal, and Robert Lewandowski’s omission for over 89 minutes certainly did not help their cause.

Poland are winless in five games, but their opponents, Romania, are not in a great moment either. The team managed by Gheorghe Hagi, at his second spell in charge of the Tricolori, has suffered a second consecutive Nations League defeat, falling 4-2 at home to Bosnia & Herzegovina behind closed doors in Bucharest.

For the second Nations League match, Hagi selected an experimental starting team with many changes to the formation that lost to Sweden in the first game. Key players were omitted entirely from the matchday squad, notably Radu Drăgușin, Dennis Man, Ianis Hagi, and Răzvan Marin.

The hosts have dominated the recent head-to-head meetings. In fact, Poland have won each of their last three encounters and scored at least three goals in all three. The last time these two sides met was in the 2018 World Cup qualifying, and Poland secured a 3-0 win in Romania and a 3-1 victory in Warsaw.

Match Preview: Poland vs Romania

This game is significant for both sides; if Poland win, they will get back into the mix for one of the top two spots in the group and promotion in Nations League A. On the other hand, Romania would be practically relegated if they suffer another defeat on matchday three.

Poland were expected to dominate League B after their relegation from the top tier. However, their poor results so far, combined with their failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, put boss Jan Urban under real pressure.

Meanwhile, Romania have consistently underperformed in recent years. They haven’t qualified for the World Cup since 1998, and their best result in international football since then is the quarter-finals at Euro 2000. In 2025, Romania won Nations League C, thanks to six straight victories, but so far are struggling to compete at this level.

After two matches, the underlying metrics suggest both teams are struggling with possession, relying on the counterattack to score. However, Poland are showing more attacking intent. In fact, Jan Urban’s side rank among the top eight teams for shot volume, taking 33 shots on goal in two matches, with 13 on target. At the same time, Romania have conceded six goals so far, the second-highest tally in the competition overall, behind only San Marino.

Team News & Predicted Lineups

Poland’s manager Jan Urban will probably bring back Robert Lewandowski to the starting eleven after the Chicago Fire striker did not start against Sweden. Skóraś might also return to the starting eleven; Slisz and Nowak are in contention for a start in midfield.

Romania’s manager Gheorghe Hagi changed the entire starting eleven from matchday one to matchday two. He’s going to mix things up again for this game against Poland. Dragusin and Ratiu are very likely to come back into the starting lineup. In midfield, Băluță is expected to start too. Up front, Man, Munteanu and Hagi will play from the first minute.

Poland Predicted Lineup (4-3-3): Bułka; Wiśniewski, Bednarek, Kiwior, Cash; Nowak, Zieliński, Skóraś; Szymański, Zalewski; Lewandowski

Romania Predicted Lineup (4-3-1-2): Radu; Ratiu, Dragusin, Ilie, Eissat; Stanciu, Băluță, Dragomir; Man; Munteanu, Hagi.
