Peter Shalulile continues to redefine excellence in South African football. The Mamelodi Sundowns marksman is already the all-time leading scorer of the PSL era.
He surpassed Siyabonga Nomvete’s long-standing record last year. The Namibian international currently sits on 134 career goals. However, his hunger for goals has placed two new milestones directly in his path.
The Race for the Sundowns Record
Shalulile has scored 107 goals while wearing the colors of Mamelodi Sundowns. He is now only four goals away from surpassing Daniel Mudau.
Mudau holds the PSL era record for the club with 110 goals. Breaking this would cement Shalulile as the most clinical finisher in the modern history of the Chloorkop-based outfit.
Unmatched Consistency in the PSL
The second target highlights Shalulile’s incredible longevity. If he scores four more goals this term, he will reach double figures for the season.
This would mark the seventh consecutive season that he has reached at least 10 goals. Such a feat is currently unmatched in the history of the PSL. His previous six seasons saw him net 11, 15, 23, 30, 22, and 19 goals respectively.
The Path Ahead
At 32 years old, Shalulile still has plenty of opportunities to find the net. Mamelodi Sundowns have a busy schedule remaining:
- At least 15 league matches.
- A minimum of one CAF Champions League fixture.
- At least one Nedbank Cup match.
This gives the striker 17 games to secure the four goals needed for both records.
Shalulile has already made history as the first player at a South African club to score 20 goals in the Champions League. His ability to perform on both domestic and continental stages remains a vital asset for The Brazilians.
