Former Mamelodi Sundowns FC striker Peter Shalulile has opened up about his decision to sign for Tanzanian giants Young Africans.
The 32-year-old Namibian marksman ended a successful six-year stint in Tshwane to head to Dar es Salaam. He made the choice despite interest from continental heavyweights like Rhulani Mokwena’s Pyramids FC and Nasreddine Nabi’s Raja Casablanca.

Heart Over Money
Speaking to iDiskiTimes, Shalulile explained that the transfer was fundamentally a personal and spiritual choice.
“I make decisions based on how my heart feels,” Shalulile said. He noted that he prayed about the opportunity for two days after speaking with the club’s chairman, who had expressed a dream years prior to bring him to Yanga.
Yanga president Hersi Ally Said confirmed to FARPost that other suitors offered higher financial packages. However, the player prioritized the club’s vision.
“There were clubs that offered him more money than we did, but he chose our project,” Hersi stated, highlighting that three years of persistent contact helped secure the free agent’s signature.
Reconnecting with Manqoba Mngqithi
Another crucial element in the transfer is the opportunity for Shalulile to reunite with newly appointed Yanga coach Manqoba Mngqithi.
Hersi emphasized that Mngqithi has elevated the club’s training intensity and tactical preparation. Bringing in a player of Shalulile’s proven work ethic is designed to reinforce that standard.
