Orlando Pirates have officially sanctioned their first departure of the January transfer window. The club confirmed that Sinoxolo Kwayiba has left Soweto to rejoin Chippa United on a permanent basis.
The 25-year-old attacker returns to the Gqeberha-based side after a very short stint with the Buccaneers. Kwayiba originally joined Pirates in June following an impressive season with the Chilli Boys. However, his time in black and white was limited.
Limited Game Time in Soweto
Kwayiba struggled to find consistent minutes in a star-studded squad. He leaves after making only four appearances for the club. In league football, his involvement was restricted to just 22 minutes across two substitute cameos.
His other appearances came in the MTN8 and the Carling Knockout. Despite his potential, the step up to a championship-chasing team presents a high bar for any player.
High Competition for Places
The exit highlights the incredible squad depth currently available to coach Abdeslam Ouaddou. Kwayiba faced a massive challenge for starting roles in both the frontline and attacking midfield.
In the striker positions, the coach has leaned on Evidence Makgopa, Yanela Mbuthuma, and Boitumelo Radiopane. The creative midfield roles are even more competitive, featuring players like Patrick Maswanganyi, Sipho Mbule, and Relebohile Mofokeng.
A New Chapter Begins
While one player leaves, the club continues to evolve. Pirates have already announced the signing of Andre De Jong from Stellenbosch FC. This suggests a strategic reshuffle to maintain their momentum in the second half of the season.
Kwayiba now returns to a familiar environment where he previously scored seven goals. This move could be the best step for his career to rediscover his scoring boots with regular football.
