Stellenbosch FC has officially strengthened its defensive line. The club announced the signing of Nigeria centre-back Olisa Ndah on Tuesday.
According to Africa.espn.com, the 28-year-old joins as a free agent. He has committed to an 18-month contract with the Winelands-based side.
A Fresh Start After Injury
Ndah’s move follows a challenging period at Orlando Pirates. The Buccaneers terminated his contract on January 29.
The defender had struggled to regain his place in the starting XI. This was largely due to a fractured tibia suffered in September 2024. While he was sidelined, Lebone Seema and Nkosinathi Sibisi established themselves as the preferred defensive duo for Pirates.
Before his injury, Ndah was a pillar for the Soweto giants. He made 81 appearances for the club after joining from Akwa United in 2021.
Strategic Recruitment for “Stellies”
The arrival of Ndah is a timely boost for Stellenbosch. The club recently saw rising star Mbekezeli Mbokazi depart for Chicago Fire FC in the United States.
Stellenbosch CEO Rob Benadie emphasized that Ndah’s recruitment was deliberate. He noted that the defender brings proven quality and experience at the highest level.
Ndah also adds to a growing Nigerian contingent at the club. He joins fellow countrymen Ibraheem Jabaar and Kazie Enyinnaya in the current squad.
Looking Ahead
Ndah’s last competitive match was in September 2024. In that game, he captained Pirates to a 3-0 win over Polokwane City. He also earned a cap for Nigeria that same month in an AFCON qualifier against Benin.
Fans may not have to wait long to see him in action. Ndah is eligible to make his debut this Wednesday. Stellenbosch hosts Magesi FC at the Danie Craven Stadium in a Betway Premiership clash.
