Mamelodi Sundowns FC are preparing to start their new season, and defender Aubrey Modiba has shared his thoughts on the squad’s dynamic. Speaking at the 2026 MTN8 launch in Johannesburg, the experienced left-back highlighted the impact of the club’s emerging talents and new additions.
Modiba believes new signing Antonio Van Wyk possesses the quality to cause major problems for opposition defenders. The defender joked that he hopes Van Wyk gives full-backs “sleepless nights” with his attacking threat and goal-scoring ability.
The squad’s youthful depth is also generating optimism within the camp. Modiba praised young players like Thato Sibiya, Kutlwano Letlhaku, and Akhanyile Norawana, noting their hunger and readiness to contribute to the senior team. He expects these academy graduates to play a significant role in achieving the team’s goals this season.
Sundowns begin their MTN8 title defense against Polokwane City FC at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday. This fixture marks the first competitive match of the campaign for head coach Miguel Cardoso’s side following their pre-season tour in Austria. Their initial league fixture was postponed due to a club bereavement.
