The recent CAF Champions League exit has created ripple effects at Chloorkop. Mamelodi Sundowns now face the real prospect of losing one of their key midfilder stalwarts.

According to reports from kickoff.com, Chilean midfielder Marcelo Allende is preparing to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of June.

With his current deal running out, Allende will be free to sign a pre-contract in January.

Key Highlights of Allende’s Transfer Situation

  • Contract status: His deal ends in June, opening the door for a free transfer.
  • Interest abroad: Offers and enquiries are building up in North and South America.
  • National team ambitions: A move to a higher-profile league could help his chances with the Chile national team.
  • Financial factors: Mexico’s top flight is considered a realistic option to match his financial expectations.

Four Years of Consistent Service

Allende arrived at Mamelodi Sundowns FC on an initial three-year deal, which included a two-year extension option that was activated before the Club World Cup.

Since joining from Uruguayan side Montevideo City Torque, the 27-year-old midfielder has been an integral figure in the squad.

  • Averaged 44 matches per season over four years.
  • Played in all 16 games so far in the 2026/27 campaign.

Despite his consistent performances in South Africa, national team recognition has remained elusive. Chile head coach Nicolas Cordova reportedly favors players in leagues with higher visibility in South America.

Looking Ahead to the FIFA Challenger Cup

While transfer speculation mounts, Allende still has major fixtures on the horizon. Mamelodi Sundowns FC are scheduled to compete in the FIFA Challenger Cup in December.

They will face the winner of the Derby of the Americas on December 12 in Qatar. Their potential opponents include Mexican outfit Toluca or the winner of the CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores final between Estudiantes de La Plata and Palmeiras.
