Mamelodi Sundowns FC have officially confirmed the transfer of winger Antonio van Wyk. The 24-year-old joins the club ahead of the upcoming campaign. The Betway Premiership champions announced the deal on Tuesday morning.

The club welcomed the attacker to Chloorkop via social media. This move marks the first major piece of business for the team this season.

A Strategic Return to South African Football

Van Wyk returns to South Africa after a stint in Austria with SV Ried. He helped his former team secure promotion to the Austrian Bundesliga. During his last season abroad, he recorded three goals and three assists.

Before moving to Europe in 2024, the winger established his reputation at Stellenbosch FC. He came through the Ubuntu Football Academy. Later, he became a key player under coach Steve Barker.

He made 77 appearances for the Western Cape side. He contributed six goals and 11 assists during that period. He also helped the team win the 2023 Carling Knockout. His performances earned him a place in the South African COSAFA Cup squads.

Expanding Squad Depth for Continental Success

This transfer concludes a long-term pursuit by the club. The Brazilians previously tried to sign the player during the January transfer window. Negotiations eventually progressed to a final agreement between all parties.

The acquisition adds significant quality to the squad. The team faces a demanding schedule across domestic and continental competitions.

The main question now focuses on tactical integration. The technical team must find the best way to utilise his speed. The squad remains highly competitive. Securing a regular starting position will require consistent performances.
