Kaizer Chiefs have made a major statement ahead of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season, securing the signature of Durban-born midfielder Ethan Chislett from England. The 26-year-old playmaker, whose football journey began in South Africa before blossoming in Europe, returns home after more than two decades abroad. Bringing with him a wealth of experience and a reputation as a goal-scoring midfielder.
Chislett, who left South Africa at the age of four, comes from a footballing family. His father Donovan played professionally in the Premier Soccer League, and his grandfather Gordon, represented the national team. After early stints in the Southampton academy, Chislett’s career took him through several English clubs, including Aldershot Town, AFC Wimbledon, and most recently Port Vale. He also spent a formative spell in Spain with Reus FCR, which he credits for shaping his technical style.
Over the past seven years as a professional, Chislett has made a name for himself in the English lower divisions. At Aldershot Town, he scored nine goals in 36 appearances. His move to AFC Wimbledon in 2020 saw him net 16 goals and provide eight assists in 132 games. Last season at Port Vale, he scored 15 goals and registered eight assists in 82 games. His actions helped the club achieve promotion from League Two to League One. Across his English career, he has tallied an impressive 40 goals, a remarkable return for a midfielder.
Chislett has signed a two-year deal with Kaizer Chiefs, with an option to extend. He reportedly turned down offers from clubs in England and Scotland, including Wigan and Motherwell. He instead chose to join the Soweto giants and pursue his ambition of breaking into the Bafana Bafana squad. Chiefs’ technical team sees him as a versatile addition, capable of playing as a number 10, number eight, or even out wide.
Known for his intelligent movement, technical passing, and eye for goal, Chislett is expected to compete for the attacking midfield role under coach Nasreddine Nabi. His arrival is seen as a potential solution to Chiefs’ recent struggles converting chances. Fans hope that his creativity and work rate will spark a new era for Amakhosi.
