Gaston Sirino Incurs Fresh Suspension at New Club Durban City

Last Updated on

Durban City FC

Gaston Sirino faces another disciplinary setback in South African football. The veteran midfielder has accumulated four yellow cards in just eight appearances for his new club, Durban City Football Club. As a result, he must serve his first suspension of the current campaign.

He picked up three yellow cards in his first five matches for the team. A fourth booking against Milford FC last month triggered the automatic one-match ban. Consequently, Sirino will miss the upcoming derby match at Chatsworth Stadium, according to reports from kickoff.com.

A Familiar Pattern Across PSL Clubs

This disciplinary record reflects a consistent trend throughout Sirino’s tenure in the Premier Soccer League. His tendency to collect cautions remains a notable aspect of his playing style, balanced against his offensive contributions.

Across his spells at Mamelodi Sundowns FC, Kaizer Chiefs, and now Durban City, the 35-year-old playmaker has accumulated over 30 yellow cards.

Sirino arrived in South Africa in January 2018 from Bolivian side Club Bolívar. During a six-and-a-half-year stint with Sundowns, he registered 85 goal contributions and won 12 trophies. He became the first footballer to claim seven consecutive PSL league titles in his initial seven seasons. He later spent two seasons at Kaizer Chiefs, where he added a Nedbank Cup title.

Availability and Broader PSL Suspensions

Despite his domestic league suspension, Sirino remains eligible for continental action. He will be available for selection in the CAF Confederation Cup second qualifying round first leg against AS Port Louis.

The midfielder is not the only player sidelined for the mid-week fixtures. Several other Premier Soccer League players will serve suspensions during Tuesday’s four scheduled matches:

  • Veluyeke Zulu (TS Galaxy FC)
  • Lindokuhle Zikhali
  • Edgar Manaka
  • Katlego Mohamme
