The two Super Saturday matches in the Eredivisie both ended in 3-2. Earlier in the evening, Ajax won by that score against PSV, and later on Saturday, Feyenoord did the same against AZ. Brian Priske’s team initially fell behind 0-1, but two spectacular minutes in the second half turned the game around. In the final minutes, returning goalkeeper Justin Bijlow had some tense moments.
Feyenoord also sloppy in defense with keeper Bijlow, AZ takes advantage
After PSV’s loss to Ajax, Feyenoord had the opportunity to close the gap in the Eredivisie standings, just like the Amsterdam team. Feyenoord wanted to bounce back from a 0-2 loss to Ajax and did so with a ‘new’ goalkeeper. Justin Bijlow was given the chance by coach Brian Priske after two midweek blunders by Timon Wellenreuther. Ramiz Zerrouki took a spot in midfield, and Julián Carranza played as the striker.
The home team had the upper hand in the first half. Most of the possession was for the Rotterdam team, but it did not lead to any significant chances. Luka Ivanušec came closest to scoring ten minutes before halftime with a clever shot, but AZ keeper Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro narrowly prevented a goal. The first goal did come, but on the other side. The first big chance for the Alkmaar team came after an error by Thomas Beelen. The Feyenoord defender completely missed the ball, and David Møller Wolfe passed it to Troy Parrott, who then scored in the open goal.
Rotterdam team turns deficit into lead within two minutes
The second half drifted along, but after an hour, Feyenoord unexpectedly equalized. Igor Paixão broke through on the right side and intended to cross. The ball deflected off Møller Wolfe’s foot and unexpectedly went past Owusu-Oduro. Less than 120 seconds later, the Rotterdam team took the lead. This time, Ivanušec came from the left side and calmly slotted the ball home.
The decisive goal came about ten minutes before the end. After an individual action by Anis Hadj-Moussa, Ibrahim Osman acrobatically scored. It got tense again in De Kuip when Mexx Meerdink made it 3-2. With this victory, Feyenoord climbed to fourth place, while AZ saw the winning Fortuna Sittard catch up with them in the standings.
