AFCON 2024 will be played in Ivory Coast at the beginning of 2024 and the excitement is beginning to build. Read on to find out everything you need to know about the AFCON groups picture and who will play who in the opening phase.
AFCON Groups Overview
The draw for the AFCON groups takes place in October, so we will not know the full picture until then. We do know that Ivory Coast, as hosts, will be in Group A. The qualification campaign finishes in September, so we will know more when the final AFCON results are in.
Here is the state of all the AFCON groups for the tournament.
Group A
Ivory Coast has been placed in Group A and will be one of the AFCON favourites to progress from the group stage and go far in the tournament. Whoever they are drawn with in Group A, the Elephants will be the team to beat.
Group B
As the draw for the AFCON groups has not been made yet, we do not know which nations will be in Group B.
Group C
The draw for the AFCON groups has not been made so we don’t know who will be in Group C. When all the AFCON qualifiers have finished we will know more.
Group D
When the Group D draw is made in October, we will know which nations look like making it through the knockout stage. AFCON fixtures will be revealed at the same time.
Group E
When we know the fixtures for AFCON 2024 we will be able to say which of the nations are favourite to go through and make our AFCON betting review.
Group F
The draw for the group stage of AFCON will be made in October, so we will have a chance to predict which nations will pick up enough points then.

AFCON Groups FAQs
There will be six groups in the opening phase of AFCON 2024.
Each group will consist of four teams, who will play each other once.
The top two nations in each group will progress, as well as the four third-placed teams with the most points.
If teams are tied on points at the end of the group stage, goal difference will be the tiebreaker. If the teams are still level the deciding factor will be goals scored, then disciplinary points, and finally the drawing of lots.
