Arthur Zwane Urges Calm After AmaZulu Stars Miss Bafana Bafana Selection

AmaZulu FC head coach Arthur Zwane has urged his standout performers to stay patient following their omission from the national team. Newly appointed national team mentor Pitso Mosimane recently unveiled his 35-man preliminary squad for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Despite strong domestic displays, key Usuthu figures like Athini Maqokolo and Nkosikhona Radebe were notable absentees.

National team call-ups often depend heavily on sustained performance rather than short-term momentum. Building a international roster requires balancing immediate talent with squad continuity. Coach Mosimane appears to be leaning into established structures as he begins his tenure.

Staying Patient and Consistent

Speaking on the squad selection, Zwane emphasized that missing out now does not mean these players lack quality.

“Look, it’s too early, man, when I say it’s too early, I don’t mean that they don’t deserve to be in the national team,” Zwane explained. “When I say it’s too early, I don’t mean that they’re not good enough. But at the moment, in everything that is happening in football, there’s this thing called continuity. So, we’ve got to give support and respect to the national team, particularly coach Pitso, because he’s been there.”

Zwane noted that consistency remains the key benchmark for any player aspiring to wear the national jersey:

“He’s watching everyone. So it’s up to the players, because consistency is everything in football. I always encourage them that if they don’t make it, it’s not that they’re bad players, but their turn will come.”

Respect for Mosimane’s Record

The 52-year-old Usuthu tactician expressed full faith in Mosimane’s pedigree. He highlighted Mosimane’s historical achievements with teams like Mamelodi Sundowns FC, where he laid a solid foundation and captured two CAF Champions League titles.

“Coach Pitso is one person who deals with reality. He doesn’t sugarcoat things,” Zwane added. “When you do well, he’ll give you a chance. He’s done a lot for the game, for South African football. He’s the one who opened doors for all the local coaches that you see now in Africa. We know he’s going to do the job.”

For the overlooked stars at Usuthu, the message from their coach is simple: maintain focus, remain disciplined, and keep pushing for the next opportunity.
