Antonio van Wyk has officially shared his primary ambitions after joining Mamelodi Sundowns FC. The winger completes his return to South African football following a spell with Austrian club SV Ried.
Sundowns announced the 24-year-old on a long-term deal on 16 June. Speaking on the Pitchside Podcast, Van Wyk explained his desire to target major silverware right away.
Targeting the CAF Champions League
Van Wyk made his main objective clear. “I would say to win another star,” he stated, referring to the CAF Champions League title. He added that getting back on track and securing the domestic league title remains a top priority.
His trajectory reflects a growing trend of South African talent gaining European experience before returning to top-flight domestic sides. Van Wyk originally left Stellenbosch FC in September 2024. During his time in the Winelands, he helped his former side win the Carling Knockout crown in December 2023.
While in Austria, the winger helped SV Ried gain promotion to the Austrian Bundesliga. He made 36 total appearances, recording two goals and seven assists during his stint overseas.

The modern game places heavy demands on wide attackers. Van Wyk believes his profile suits the high expectations in Tshwane.
He described his personal playstyle directly:

- High comfort in one-on-one situations

Delayed Premiership Debut
Fans will have to wait briefly to see the attacker in league action. Sundowns’ opening Betway Premiership fixture against Marumo Gallants FC was postponed due to pre-season disruptions following the tragic passing of midfielder Jayden Adams.
Instead, the Tshwane side will open their competitive schedule on 8 August in an MTN8 clash against Polokwane City FC.
