Orlando Pirates have bolstered their squad with the signing of Andre de Jong. The former Stellenbosch FC midfielder joined during the January transfer window. He is part of a trio of new arrivals. These include Daniel Msendami and Mpho Chabatsane from Marumo Gallants.

The Buccaneers are currently leading the Betway Premiership. They hold a narrow two-point lead over Mamelodi Sundowns. De Jong’s arrival signals the club’s intent to secure their first league title since the 2011/12 season.

A New Chapter in Soweto

De Jong expressed his excitement about the move to the club’s media team. He noted that moving in January is challenging. However, he is eager to contribute immediately. The midfielder has already undergone intensive training during the mid-season break.

Pirates have enjoyed significant cup success recently. They have already secured the MTN8 and the Carling Knockout titles this season. De Jong hopes to build on this momentum. He views this move as an “exciting chapter” in his career.

Strategic Strengthening

The loss of De Jong is significant for Stellenbosch FC. He was a key figure in their tactical setup. For Orlando Pirates, his versatility offers head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou more options in the attacking third.

The Buccaneers have often come close to league glory in recent years. This season feels different as they sit at the summit. De Jong’s arrival could be a vital addition for the Soweto giants as they enter the final stages of the campaign.
