Kaizer Chiefs have officially strengthened their squad. The club has secured the services of midfielder Xhosa Manyana on loan.
The 20-year-old joins from Cape Town City. This deal runs until the end of the current season. According to soccerladuma.co.za, Chiefs also hold an option to buy the player permanently in July.
Tactical Flexibility and Strategic Depth
This move is a calculated one for Amakhosi. Adding a young player with international experience provides valuable midfield depth.
Manyana spent the first half of 2025 in the United States. He played in the MLS Next Pro league with Cincinnati FC. While the American club had a buy option for approximately R6.5 million ($400k), they chose not to exercise it.
Cape Town City Chairman John Comitis confirmed the move. He noted a “bottleneck” at the “position 6” role in his squad. This loan allows Manyana to continue his progress without being blocked by squad congestion in Cape Town.
A Local Rate for a Permanent Move
The financial structure for Chiefs differs from the MLS deal. Comitis indicated that any permanent transfer in July would be at a local rate.
It remains to be seen how Chiefs will integrate Manyana. The club already features several options in the midfield. This includes young Thulani Mabaso, who recently made his debut against Golden Arrows.
For Chiefs, this is a low-risk, high-reward move. They get to test a promising talent before committing to a full transfer. It reflects a wider trend of strategic loan moves in the PSL to manage squad development and budgets.
