Former Al Ahly winger Ahmed El Sheikh has reflected on his departure from the Egyptian giants. He suggests that a lack of belief from Pitso Mosimane ended his stay at the club.

Mosimane arrived at Al Ahly in October 2020. He joined the Red Devils following a highly successful period with Mamelodi Sundowns FC. At that time, El Sheikh was already part of the squad in Cairo.

However, the working relationship between the two was brief. Within just two months of the South African coach taking charge, El Sheikh left the club. He joined rivals Pyramids FC on a free transfer.

A Difference in Vision

According to reports from Sports Leb, El Sheikh felt the coach was not fully convinced by his capabilities. Despite the winger’s efforts in training, he remained sidelined for major matches.

This situation reflects the high-pressure environment of elite African football. When a new manager arrives, they often make swift decisions to align the squad with their specific tactics.

Mosimane’s approach proved effective for the club’s trophy cabinet. He guided Al Ahly to two CAF Champions League titles before his departure in 2022. While his methods brought silverware, they also meant certain players had to move on to find regular game time.

Current Status

El Sheikh is currently a free agent. His experience highlights how quickly a player’s standing can change under new leadership. The winger’s exit was a significant turning point in his career, driven by the tactical preferences of the former Bafana Bafana coach.
