Kaizer Chiefs legend Itumeleng Khune believes the club has what it takes to win the CAF Confederation Cup.

The former Bafana Bafana captain shared his insights during a media briefing in Bryanston. He insisted that Amakhosi must maintain a winning mentality.

Aiming for Maximum Points in Egypt

Chiefs currently sit at the top of Group D with 10 points. They face second-placed Zamalek this Saturday in Ismailia.

While a draw is enough to secure a spot in the knockout stages, Khune expects more. He believes a club of Chiefs’ stature must always play for a win.

“As a big team, you can’t aim for a draw,” Khune stated. He emphasized that the team must believe they can beat the Egyptian giants on their own turf.

Brandon Petersen’s Rise

Khune also took time to praise the current form of Brandon Petersen. The goalkeeper has been a vital part of the club’s success this season.

Petersen has recorded 15 clean sheets in 25 matches across all competitions. Khune noted that the captain’s armband has brought out the best in him.

The legendary keeper believes Petersen is a strong contender for the upcoming World Cup squad. His leadership and consistency have made him one of the top performers in the country.

The Continental Context

Winning in North Africa is one of the toughest tasks in African football. A victory against Zamalek would send a massive statement to the rest of the continent.

Khune believes the current squad has the quality to go all the way. He maintains that the Confederation Cup title is well within their reach if they keep their current momentum.

According to timeslive.co.za, the match is scheduled for 6pm SA time this Saturday at the Suez Canal Authority Stadium.
